Our Beginning
Molly was our beginning and our foundation at Gun River. Molly was from a combination of field and show breedings. Molly was bred to FC Skycrest's Jettin' Josh, a stocky black field trial champion. This breeding produced MHR Gun River's Pahasapa TazDevil MH and Gun River's Dakota Slate SH. Slate was retired early when a dear friend lost his hunting dog and needed a good friend and hunting partner. Slate was adopted by Jim Landon in Kennewick, WA and lived the rest of his life retrieving hundreds of birds on the Columbia River. Taz was Archie's hunting dog, our companion and most importantly she was Archie's guardian angel. Taz saved Archie's life on an ill fated duck hunting trip. All three of these great dogs conformed to the standard of our national Labrador Retriever Club, Inc. All three dogs were exceptional hunters, family members, all had OFA good hips and all had ACVO eye clearances for their entire lifetimes.
Taz was bred to AFC Hiwood Apache, a beautiful black Amateur Field Champion out of the same lines of the last living dual American champion.
This breeding gave us Gun River's Rooster Cogburn CD MH CGC WCX pictured below.

Rooster was an incredible friend, teacher, hunter and house dog. Rooster won a licensed field trial DERBY in Tacoma, WA. He earned a CD in AKC obedience, as well as the AKC Master Hunter title. Rooster was shown on a limited basis in the ring and he retired with a number of show ribbons, from all breed shows, Specialties and 2 National Specialties. His first breeding produced Gun River's Vision Quest CDX SH CGC aka “Kara.” Kara earned a CDX in obedience and a Senior Hunter in the AKC hunt tests. Kara passed July 2007, 4 days after her 14th birthday. She is greatly missed.

Int'l CH Ridge View At Gun River S.H. (Call name “Ridge.”)
Ridge was a product of our search for a dog from show lines that had drive and retrieving desire. Ridge was from a litter bred by Donna Reece at Ridge View Labradors. Ridge retired from the show ring with 13 AKC championship points. One of those wins was a 5 point Major. Ridge also has 3 Master Hunter qualifying scores. Ridge will continue to be hunted and loved. Ridge has OFA Good hips and continues to pass his ACVO exam annually. He is a beautiful dog with a passion for birds, fun, and bouncing!
